Upgrading
Upgrade to Regional Referee
Eligibility & Requirements
Game Experience
Referees interested in upgrading to Regional Referee must submit a game log documenting their previous amateur adult game experience to the State Director of Referee Development. Games must be at the adult amateur level within leagues sanctioned under US Soccer. Leagues within West Virginia that meet this requirement include, but are not limited to, Mountaineer United Soccer Club (MUSC) Adult League, Ohio Valley Premier League (OVPL), and Southern West Virginia Adult Soccer League (SWVASL). For leagues not mentioned or for those out of state, referees are encouraged to contact the State Director of Referee Development to determine eligibility.
Evaluations
Referees interested in receiving an Upgrade or Maintenance evaluation must submit the WV Referee Evaluation Request Form. Note that submission of this request does not guarantee that a referee coach will be available to complete your evaluation. For the best chances of referee coach coverage, it is suggested to request evaluations at least two weeks in advance of the game. Eligible games must be part of US Soccer-sanctioned leagues and must play 45-minute halves. For those looking to upgrade for the 2026 registration year, the three evaluations must be completed on or before June 30, 2025.
Fitness Test
