Steps to Become a Referee in West Virginia
Step 1: Create a profile in the U.S. Soccer Learning Center
Click here to create your U.S. Soccer Learning Center profile.
All Learning Center profiles will require a unique primary email address.
Sign up using the referee’s name and birthdate.
Secondary email addresses (i.e. Parent's) may be required on the profile.
Note: Referees must be at least 13 years old to register.
Step 2: Complete the online Digital First Time Referee Course
Register for the WV - 2025 Digital First Time Referee Course.
Complete all of the online course assignments.
Cost: $40
Note: If you are 18+ years old, you must also complete the NCSI Background Screening, (~$30)
Duration: the online course will take you approximately 5 total hours, which can be completed over multiple sessions. Your progress will be saved as you take the course.
After 1st year: Complete the "Bridge" Training
After your first year as a referee, you will be required to complete additional training known as a "Bridge Class" to continue working as an official in 2026. This training will include an online component as well as an in-person field session. Field sessions will be held throughout the state to minimize required travel and may be held as early as July 1st, 2025, but no later than June 30, 2026. Details will be shared via this website, email, the Learning Center, and various social media platforms.
